Gary Lanier has been a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio since 1981. He retired from First Energy after 31 years service. As a Senior Engineer in First Energy’s Fossil Operations, Mr. Lanier was responsible for coordinating, designing, setting specifications, training, and implementing electrical maintenance outages, repairs and testing programs. Mr. Lanier also developed and implemented an Electrical Equipment Assessment protocol to assess the condition of and studies maintenance records for generators and electrical equipment to determine the proper repair and replacement timeframe for the equipment. This protocol enables companies to more accurately determine maintenance and replacement schedules for its electrical equipment.
Gary Lanier also co-developed and taught a training course for electrical engineers covering practical applications of power plant electrical equipment including testing, maintenance, relay coordination, and design. This course gives new electrical engineers training essential to power plant electrical operations not covered in their college engineering courses. Mr. Lanier is a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Power Engineering Society and is a Member and Chairman of the IEEE Akron Section. Gary Lanier also has served as President of the Akron Council of Engineering and Scientific Societies.
